  1. You don't give any facts.  Age?  Weight? Gender? Experience? Goals?

Anywhere from 16 oz to 20 oz is good for fun sparring.  If you are into serious training, ask your coach.

BTW, the heavier weights use 16 oz for non-championship matches and the lighter weighs use lower.  Somebody on here got that reversed.  You need more, not less, padding to withstand the harder blows of a heavier opponent, although it is also true that the glove really protects the wearer's fist more than the recipient's face.

  2. 16 ounce gloves are always good for training in. the weight of the glove you use in a fight is determined by your weight class. the lower weights use 16 ounce and the higher the weight division the lower the gloves are

  3. Depends on what division you want to fight in. For sparring with Friends, 16 to 18oz is a good choice because the gloves are big enough that even if you don't know how to box well or block, its hard to get 16 to 18oz gloves to land cleanly if the other guys guard is up.

Also what we used to do when sparring with Friends was take size into consideration, If one guys is 220 lbs and your 160, its fair to give the 160 lb guy a pair of 12 oz gloves and the 220 guy 18 oz gloves.

    Don't forget your mouthpiece.

  4. 16 is more of a practice size, when you spar most places use 12oz. practice with 16 to get used to them so the 12 will seem lighter
