Should I get Mazuri lab blocks or Reggie Rat food for my rat?

Question

I was wondering which was better? People say that Reggie rat isn't good, Is this true? also, what is the appropriate age to buy a rat and take it away from its mother? please answer!!!!! :)

Reggie rat is a seed mix and those are never good. Mazuri is not that great either. I would recommend Oxbow Regal Rat (you might be able to get it at a store but usually you have to get it offline). It is the best rat diet and the next best is Harlan teklad which you do have to get online. I would not recommend either of those food choises. But make sure you give fresh fruits and veggies with any diet you give them. I also heard you say rat. You ALWAYS, without fail, should get TWO rats. They are very social animals and thrive on another rats sompany, no matter how much time you spend with it. He/she will get depressed when living alone. Please do your research before getting some ratSSSS. As for the age, about 5-6 weeks old is good but make sure you look into your local shelter to see if there are any ratties that need good homes.

it's preferred to get a rat at 6 weeks though some get them at 5. you should get more than one though. mazuri is better though neither is great. mazuri is too high in protein and reggie has alfalfa and corn. you should get harlan teklad blocks.

Mazuri is a much better choice. It's a lab block, and I disagree about it not being good. I think Mazuri is pretty good. Not as good as Harland Tekland or Oxbow, of course, but still good. Definitely go with Mazuri.

Seed mixes aren't good because they pick out what they like (which is usually the fatty, unhealthy bits). Although, Reggie Rat is OK to use as a treat, but never as the main diet. Certainly one of the BETTER seed mixes, but I still wouldn't recommend it.. Pick out the corn kernels, though, if you do get it.

Mazuri, though, is the way to do it if you aren't willing to order online for the other two lab block types.

Six weeks is the best time to get them, and you should always at least get a pair.

i preffer the reggie.and they can be taken away from there mother at 5 to 6 weeks because that is when the mother weans them.
