Question:

Should I get a 720p or 1080p TV?

I'm going to get a 32" LCD TV. I'm leaning towards 720p. The difference in price is $699 compared to $999 for the 1080. I don't have a blu-ray player and will likely not get one right away, nor do I have a PS3. I will probably eventually get one when they are cheaper. The store people say the 1080 is the better deal and a better long-term investment given the higher resolution, but I don't think I'd even use the capabilities that much. Plus, with a 32" TV, I don't see how the higher resolution is even that big of a deal. It seems that's more of ain issue with TV's 40" and bigger. What do you think?

  1. On a 32" you won't see any difference unless you're right next to the TV; Go for 720p. On a side note--whats the point in getting an HDTV without getting some high-def content?

  2. Get the 32" 720p!

  3. if u really wanna hv a gud LCD tv den go 4 d 720p......... its ur wish.............

  4. Save the money and get the 720p.

The quality difference between 720p and 1080p is so slight that even experts have trouble telling it apart. Also, Blu-Ray players are really the only thing you can get that will support 1080p. No cable companies broadcast in 1080p because the quality difference is almost identical and it is just a waste of space.

Don't let the store people tell you the 1080p is a better investment because they are just trying to get more money from you. As you said, you won't be getting a Blu-Ray player anytime soon, so you're just throwing money away on a minuscule quality difference you won't even get to see.

Also, you are correct with the 32". If you were buying a 60" TV, you might see the tiniest difference between 720p and 1080p, but anything 40" or under it's almost impossible.

Besides, for the extra money you'd be paying to get the 1080p, you might as well get a larger size set at 720p anyway!
