Should I get a Doberman for a pet?

I'm 24yrsold, have always really liked Dobermans, I think they're gorgeous and smart. I live alone and I also think one would help with feeling more secure/safe, kind of for protection somewhat . I also love running and would take him/her with me. What do you think? Is this an unrealistic breed? Especially for someone who doesn't have a yard? Thanks

  1. I was thinking a Doberman would be good for you... until I read your last sentence. Most dogs need a yard for exercise and to go to the bathroom. Unless you plan on going running three times a day, a Dobe wouldn't get enough exercise. I would suggest getting a small breed of dog (but I don't know which). That way it can be trained to use a litter box or pads, which would probably be more convenient for you. Be sure to choose one that isn't especially active. Any dog will contribute to your security- a burgler would likely hear the dog bark and not even bother coming inside. Maybe you could get a Doberman when you have a house with a yard.
