Should I get a MacBook Air, and are they worth it?

I am really sick of not having my own computer. My father claims that the laptop in the LIVING ROOM is MINE, but everyone uses it and always have to kick me off! Two days ago I saw it in an Apple store and really liked it! But is it worth 1800 dollars??

I mostly want my own computer for online gaming and chatting with friends, and now school is starting I want to have my own computer.

Except, I noticed that there's no room for a CD drive. Does that mean I can't get Microsoft Word onto it? If not, is there another way I CAN get it?

I really want a Mac... is this the best one for me or should I get a different one? Thanks in advance.

  1. The Mac Air is really not worth the money since u have to add many outside drives like CD etc.  Since you like to game chat and do school work i suggest a Dell Inspiron or these other brands check them out pretty good price and way better than the Air more memory better graphics better processors etc

    Asus G1, G2

    MSI G Series

If you want the Prices just google them but I no that they will not exceed $2000 Plus it's a better choice the mac air just lacks the things you want like gaming etc

  2. Even though the macbook air does not have a CD rom there is an option if you have bluetooth of using the remote disk option. I saw it on apple.com. you can put your cd in on another computer and remotely access it from your mac and install the software. I myself chose to buy the Macbook Black laptop. It has a cdrom, burns disks and has the higher memory of the 2 macbooks. Macbook pro is another option for you if you have money. I think the air is for the most part just a gimmick to trick people out of there money. So it's thin, so what?? It is also a big inconvenience and you have to buy accessories to make it function like a regular laptop. Dumb!

  3. Just get a Macbook. MacBook Air is notorious for overheating when using for CPU intensive tasks (gaming, video editing etc), and as you said no CD Drive and few USB ports. Remote disk option for Macbook requires another computers CD drive. This can be inconvenient especially when other people are using the Laptop in your living room. Also you have to buy accessories in order to make it as useful as a normal laptop.

A Macbook is much cheaper than the Macbook Air but the specs are much better. If you really want th fastest, go for the MacBook Pro.

  4. I agree with the above post. Get a Macbook, or for not much more than the Macbook Air, you can get a Macbook Pro. If you mean online gamins as in games you have to install to play, Boot Camp Windows XP. If you mean browser-based games, then Macs are fine! They are more powerful and a lot more reliable and speedy. And with Macs, if you have any problems, like you were talking about, you can go into the Apple Store and speak to a Mac 'genius'.

  5. If you are gaming, not online, you should not buy it. I agree they are really sleek and elegant, including the OS and they are also powerful. But they are not compatible with many of the games out there and many softwares. So, think it over.

I suggest you buy a Windows based PC, preferably HP.

  6. I guess you are confused like the rest of us as to whether choose a normal windows lap/pc or a mac. It depends mainly on the usage. In case you want a mac then go in for it. Check the link below for a survey regarding mac and other pc. So it might give an idea to what you want.
