Question:

Should I get a Male or Female cat?

I had two male cats and sadly one of them recently passed away. The other one is very depressed and I would like to get another cat to keep him company. He is neutered. Would he get along best with another neutered male or a spayed female? I will not consider getting one that is not fixed.

  1. It wouldn't really matter, just make sure that if you have a male or a female the cat should be neutered or spayed and used to being around other cats as well.

  2. Female 'cause u can keep the kittens and ur cat may not like the male cat and fight with it or u could just get a male which ever ur cat prefers

  3. male

  4. Probably a female one 'cos two males that don't know each other may fight. Also I think getting a female cat is probably better anyway because they are less adventurous and less likely to stray away from home. I think they are also more affectionate. My female cat certainly is. Hope this helps.......

  5. If you want to keep kittens in the future easier, you should have a female one today..:)

  6. Very shaky territory here! I would imagine that both of your cats were litter mates or at least both came into the house as kittens so they would of posed no threat to each other.  Now the situation is totally different as your cat is now an adult, and as you say seems to be pining for his mate the problem here is he could see another adult male as  a threat where as a female would not be seen as such a threat to him as an adult male would. Mind you there is still no guarantee that your cat would accept a female either as like humans cats pick and choose whom they spend time with. But overall I would think a female adult would be more  preferable than an adult male.

Would you not consider getting a kitten? it could be your safest choice as the kitten would pose no threat whatsoever to your established male and after the initial spitting you would have a much better chane of feline harmony. Give it some thought as cats always accept kittens much easier, other than that go with the female adult. Whatever you decide good luck hope all goes well you could also try a plug in feliway which you should be able to get in any good pet shop or on line. It would certainly help the transition from one cat to two cat household. I have kept cats all my life and will soon be adding to my own feline family so I have lots of experience with cats.  Hope all goes well at least you have given it a lot of thought I am sure it will all go fine things can always be a bit standoffish for the first couple of weeks whatever you do! sorry to hear about the loss of your male cat but best of luck with your newbie.

  7. It doesn't really matter.  I foster kittens through work and I have 2 male cats of my own.  As long as the cats are spayed or neutered it doesn't make much of a difference.  I have found that males tend to be more affectionate and easy going, where females are more standoffish.  All girls are trouble, aren't we?

  8. I'm very sorry to hear about your cat :o(.

I would say definitely female. Male cats (even after they have been neutered) are very territorial and dominant. We took in a stray male and had him neutered, if another male cat comes to visit or comes in "his" garden, he is not happy. At the end of the day, it is more likely that he will get on better with a female cat rather than male. If you really want another boy, then get him very young (8 weeks and over). All cats can usually cope with kittens as long as you introduce them very slowly.

It is different for all cats at the end of the day. How does your cat normally get on with others?

  9. Female   or both

  10. I`d prefer female cats ..

  11. i would have to say maybe male. because with my experience with cats, and boy have i had allot of them. male cats normally take to other male cats more than they do female cats. i think this because once i had 2 male cats, and one passed away also. we got another cat, but a female. we brought her home and all the male cat did was bash her up and hiss at her.

but that's just my opinion. who knows. he might take to a female.

    best of luck.

  12. Female

  13. i have 4 cats 3 male 1 female. my males get along great with each other. my males are the most friendliest cats youll ever meet. sadly the female isnt. shes alright but most females dont really like to be held or get peded all that much. but also all of my cats grew up together since they were kittens. your gonna have a serious problem with bringing another cat into the inviorment your cat you have now sees your home as his territory no other animals allowed. a new cat may be a serious problem.

  14. Male.

I have 5 males and 1 female and it's the female who is always part of any kitty conflicts.  Neutered males generally seem to enjoy playing together and hanging out together, especially if you get the new one before he reaches maturity.  The females that I've had prefer their people over other cats and tend to be more territorial than the males.  Many people seem to think the males are the most territorial, but naturally females would have to raise and protect their kittens so they seem to be more serious about it, even when they're spayed.

I'm sorry for your loss.  Good luck finding a friend for your kitty.

  15. I'd try a female. He may fight with another male cat that he isn't used to.
