Question:

Should I get a Plan B prescription?

I take my birth control pills religously. If I'm late, it's only by a couple of hours. I am having my period and taking placebo pills. My fiance and I were having s*x last night with a condom. We noticed that he got very flacid after a period of time. When I got off him, the condom slipped off. He doesn't know if he ejaculated or not. Even though I am on the pill, I am very scared because it was during my period. Should I get a Plan B prescription? Knowledgable answers would be greatly appreciated.

  1. Plan B is for seniors on Medicare.  You want "the morning after pill" - it has a number as its name - see your ob/gyn at once.

  2. No you dont need it. If you are on the pill and take it as carefully as you state and you are on your period right now you are fine. The pill makes it so you dont ovulate so there is no chance of pregnancy. The success rate of the pill is 99.9%.  You are covered!

  3. Whatagal you sound dumb and almost rude. Plan B IS the morning after pill *rolls eyes* some people.....

anyway back to your question, i honestly don't think you need the pill.

the only thing i don't understand is how dosent your fiance know if he came or not? that's a bit odd.

but in all seriousness, don't be scared, you will be fine.

  4. If you have been on the pill for at least 2 months and you are taking them at the same time everyday like you said you are, and you are on your period, it is very unlikely that you could become pregnant.  Also, you would know if he "came" inside because when you stand up, it comes out (sorry to be graphic), some may argue that it only takes a little bit, but usually it takes the bolus.  Also, while on birth control, an egg is not actually released, so no egg could be available for fertilization.  But, lets say an egg was by chance released, since you are on your period, uterine wall is being shed (thats the blood), so the necessary implantation environment is not their for a fertilized egg.

Okay, that being said, there is still always a slim chance that all these things were defied, and if you have doubt, its better to cover your bases.  Plan B runs from $40-$45, and it might mess up your next cycle, and you will still need back up contraception (i.e. condoms), its better to have peace of mind than to spend the next 28 days worrying.

So, bottomline, if you really have doubt (chances are slim though), I would take it (also, Plan B does not require a prescription in most states, unless you are under 18 years old, otherwise just go to your pharmacy counter ask for it, show your ID, and talk to the pharmacist).  Good Luck!

  5. Having been in similar situations that caused me similar panic, I'd have to say that you're probably fine and plan B is not necessary.  If you have been taking your pills properly (and haven't taken any antibiotics this month or eaten grapefruit or taken an antacid near the time you take your pill) then there is a good chance that the pill alone has probably prevented fertilization.

If for some reason the pill has failed, your fiance was wearing a condom.  True, it slipped off, but it slipped off as you were separating, and your fiance didn't know if he had even come -- did you look for ejaculate in the condom for evidence of ejaculation? Even if some sperm made it through via pre-ejaculate, they were probably caught in the condom.

Thirdly, you are on your period.  Now, it is not impossible for women to become preggers from s*x experience while on their period, but it is very very rare because generally no egg is available and the uterine lining is shedding so implantation cannot occur.  Sperm can be retained in the woman and can fertilize an egg later, but chances of that without an actual ejaculation are slim to none.

Chances are you have nothing to worry about.  I am a worrier as well, but I don't think you need plan b. If nothing will ease your mind but to get it, then by all means do, but I think it's unnecessary.

  6. If it makes the stress a little better then of course. I have been there a couple of times. It has worked for me but remember the sooner you take it the better, and the percentage of effectiveness lessens greatly as time progresses. Best of luck.
