  1. Yes,I think everyone should have a quarantine tank.

Any time you bring in new fish, the potential is there to bring in disease and pests.

Need to quarantine 4-6 weeks before adding new fish to main tank.

Mine is a 10 gallon tank with airstone and filter for a 50 gallon tank.

I buy a lot of stuff used from Craig's list, lots of great deals.

My whole q tank set up cost me 20.00

  2. depends: Saltwater or Freshwater? Usually its just the substrate, heater, filter...

  3. Quarantine tanks don't need substrate, you can probably pick up a small tank and a basic filter and heater for about £30 (you could probably get them for $40 in the US). The good thing about quarantine tanks is that they can also be used for mating and raising fry.

    Good luck.

  4. It is good to have one if you are getting new fish frequently or like to separate your fish when they are sick. A 5-10 gallon should do. You could go without gravel or other substrate on the bottom because if you are treating Ick it is easier to gravel vac an empty bottom. You would need a filter and a way to establish bacteria in the filter rather than gravel is to take a media from your other filter and put it in the new filter so it can cycle. Yay.

10 gallon aquarium - $30ish for a new one or you could probably find a great deal on craigslist or ebay (I just did when I looked for prices)

    Filter for a

10 gallon filter - $10 new, according to online prices

    EDIT:

Fish like light. You at least need a cover for it.  Mine came with one built in.
