Should I get a Used Breast Pump?

I am pregnant with my first child and am wondering if I should buy a used breast pump and just get new parts for it. Any advice?

i think it's fine to get a used one, just make sure it's clean of course. I don't see the problem because when my daughter was in the NICU and I was tried pumping at the hospital it was of course used by someone before me, it's not like every mom in the NICU that was pumping got there very own new pump.

I think it all depends on you. Personally I couldn't do it. Just the thought of a whole bunch of other people pumping their breast with the same instrument bugs me the h**l out. I think it's pretty safe if you don't mind things like that though.

I would recommend not going this route if at all possible.  If you have to go this route, I would only get a used one from someone you know and sterilize it extremely well.  So you know where it has been and what kind of abuse it has been through.  Sometime the spare parts can be really expensive too, it would be worth doing a cost analyis on how much the parts are versus how much just getting a new pump would be.  New pumps come with warranties, sometime advice hotlines, and are guarenteed to be cleaned and unused.  I would say the new one would be worth it, just for warranty purposes alone, a pump can stop working at any point.

I wouldn't have a problem with it, just make sure you sterilize it before use.

I say go for it! I was thinking about doing the same thing. I got a free manuel breastpump from the hospital and it came with practically everything but the electric part. My daughters 3 months old and I really wish I could afford buying an electric pump. Using a manuel pump gets very tiring.

There is no difference you sterilize the pieces anyhow. Or you can rent one at the hospital.
