Okay guys here is the deal, right now I have a kicker cvr 400 rms. I am powering it with an infinty 300 rms amp. If i got a bigger amp like maybe a 400 rms amp, would my sub hit harder? or would it be not enough to tell? also i heard that if you under power a sub it will blow, is this true? thanks guys

  1. If your not ported go ported for better efficiency and a noticable difference

  2. Under powering a sub will blow the sub????? Who ever told you this kick them in the neck, because they know nothing.

Now sending more power than needed for the sub couls blow the sub if your gain is not set properly. You could put an amp on that sub that gives it 5X it's RMS power and not blow the sub as long as your gains are set proplerly.

I would put a 500 watt RMS amp on it, set the gain, and call it a day.

  3. Stick with airforceyooper on this one.

  4. Under powering is not going to blow your sub as long as your system is set up properly.  Make sure your gains are set right.  As for the difference between 300 and 400 watts, you'll gain about 1db.  Not worth it if you ask me.  To gain 3 db (a noticeable difference), you need to double your power.  So, if you have 300 watts and you want a noticeable difference worth of gain (3db) you'll need 600 watts of power, and then 1200 watts of power and then 2400 watts of power.  Your other options are to increase the number of subs you have or build a better enclosure, if your current enclosure can be improved upon.
