Both sexes would be fine. Depending on how many times a week you want to clean the cage can be a factor, females tend to smell a lot less, as males stink more :) Males are friendlier but Territorial, females are sociable and can be with another hamster.

The last two hamster I have had were males so I can't really compare but I enjoyed the experience with both of them

Boy hamsters are generally more laid back and calmer and girls can be more hyper and active at night. Also pet stores generally keep their boy and girl hamsters together so, the girl hamster can be pregnant when you buy it. We've had two boy hamsters (not at the same time) and they behaved better then when we had two little girls. The girls fought with each other all the time and sometimes bit us. All hamsters are generally better off by their selves. As they can get territorial and aggressive to others. You can get a girl hamster if she's very young (too young to mate) or if you know for certain she has never been in the same cage with a male. Good luck.

Personal preserance really i have a Female coz they tend to be very laid back and dont smell  at all also you know boys have balls well on adult hamster they really do show so i would always pick the girl hands down

either is fine as long as you tame them well,  females tend to be out more than males but they can be moody when it comes to be in a season. i have a male hamster and he's fine and my friend has had females and she's had no problems with them.

You should get a boy one because girls bleed and what if the vet is closed and then on the next day she will not move and after that she will die.
