Question:

Should I get a budget camcorder like the Flip Mino or just stick with the video function on my canon sd630?

Both shoot at 30 frames/second.

Would the quality be the same? Should I hold out for a more expensive camcorder?

I'm going to be traveling in Asia, and would just like to share some video with friends, nothing high tech...

  1. My advice is to go for good digital camera, not cam coder because in camcorder the picture quality is not very good but most of the digital camera can shoot to DVD quality,  I do own both and realize that seldom use camcorder because when the requirement comes digital camera is fast to set up.

  2. Go for the video camera.

The video quality will be MUCH better from even a budget camera than the video on a still camera. Ikk...it makes me sick just thinking about it(I don't like still camera video. Can you tell?).

I have owned 2 "budget" cameras and they are excellent.

Get the ZR line from Canon. I have the ZR800 right now. It's the best "all round" budget camera. It does not have still photo record, but thats what still cameras are for. Best of all it has a microphone input if you need that.

If you don't need the mic input go for the ZR850. It has a better image sensor and it does have still image functions(it's not like a good still camera though)

Both of these are MiniDV so you'll have to capture video from your camera, but they are cheap and actually pretty good cameras.
