Should I get a carbon fiber hood for $400 or just have my stock hood repainted for my black 99 Civic - Advice!

Ok hers the situation. My hood on my 99 black civic EX coupe is starting to crack in the paint and there is a very small rust spot about the size of a pea that i filled in with touch up paint--I know this wont stop the rusting unfortunately. So I have decided that maybe I should get a carbon fiber hood from this guy i know who owns a parts shop who offered to sell it to me for $400. Is this a good price or no?

If i do buy the carbon fiber hood should i get it clearcoated first at maaco so it doesnt fade as quickly because i know they fade fast..

See id just get the hood repainted but that would entail having to be without my car for like a week and then i wouldnt have a ride to work everyday. it would just be a hassle. What should i do? Do u think carbon fiber hoods look bad on black cars since the colors dont perfectly match? I wuldnt be buying the hood for performance, id be buying it because my hood is going to h**l.

  1. well if your not looking for performance then i wouldnt recommend buying a carbon fiber hood. dont get me wrong they are alot lighter but they are really delicate and will crack really easy. if you ever sit on your hood or if you got dents in your hood from like hail or something i wouldnt recommend it. i would get another hood from a junkyard and repaint it if its not already black. also the carbon fiber wont match the black perfectly but it gives it more of a sporty look. if you do get the carbon fiber hood have them spray a clear coat on it not because the clear on the original hood fades but because it gives it a little more protection from like rocks when you are driving behind trucks or larger vehicles. also if you have a CF hood dont put to much weight on it or you will notice it start to crack. but the up side is they are really light and look really clean especially on dark color vehicles. i cant say if its a cheap hood or not because your buying it off the guy and not from a company if its oem at that price most likely it is a good hood but i dont know where the guy got it and how much he paid for it. but its really what you can afford and how you really want to go with the car. well hope you make a good choice for yourself and dont listen to any haters that trash talk civic because they most likely have never driven one or have ever worked on a civic engine to see what a b series or even a d series can pull off.

  2. dont get a civic if ur trying to be cool.

  3. first there is rust that means more can come second the good thin about the CF is that it is much lighter you don't care about performance but weight does affect fuel  mileage clear coat it  and you know it will never rust

  4. Its not what's on the hood, It's what's under the hood that matters use that money to invest in a turbo or a chip and Fly buy a guy with a carbon hood

  5. Just get it repainted, becuase 400 bucks on a carbon fiber hood seems a lot to me. I know they have those paints that prevents rust and gives it that nice glausy look. ya thas my opinion.

  6. I'm not a fan of carbon fiber hoods unless you paint them to match the car.  The only problem with fixing your current hood is that if the rust is more than surface rust then it will eventually come back and having it painted will be for nothing.   I would find a new stock hood and have that repainted.

  7. Save your money and go to school.  Civics are for wussies.

  8. You should be able to find a black hood to fit your car in a junkyard for WAY less than $400, and it will match the paint better than the CF, too. And don't think I hate composites, because I just recommended CF lacrosse poles in another answer. It's just that the 'cheap' carbon fiber hoods are all kind of c**p and often weigh more than stock.
