Question:

Should I get a claim damages on my accident?

I recently got into an accident. I was at fault and let my insurance company know. It looked like there was no damage to the other party's car (Very slow collision) (he also called it in, we both have GEICO) and some damage to my front hood. Geico told me the other party will be fully covered but i have a $1000 deductible.

My question is should i get a quote from a "GEICO" approved shop?

The damage to my car will be around my deductible (I checked at another shop)

If I don’t claim it, will that help my policy?

They already know of the accident and i don’t think the other guy will claim anything since there was no damage. Will it help me if i don’t get a quote and I fix the my car on my own?

  1. Yes, if you pay out of pocket for the repairs, GEICO wouldn't be paying anything out and that will look better when they determine your rates.  They check to see how much was paid out on claims.

You don't have to go to a GEICO shop for a quote.

  2. Your deductible only applies to your vehicle damages not the other driver's.  The other ddriver'sdamages are paid under Property Damage of your liability and is payable depending  on he percentage of fault you were.  I'm assuming 100% in this case.  But again, no deductible to you.

Your GEICO adjuster will normally offer the GEICO approved shops to the other driver or they will inspect it on their own with one of the staff appraisers.
