Should I get a crown for my front tooth??

I chipped my top front tooth (Central incisor) when I was about 9 years old. Well I had a composite filling done a when I chipped it, then I had it redone about a month ago, well I dont like the color, and we've tried it over and over again and it wont match my tooth for some reason. Porcelain fillings are a bit pricey. the dentist suggested a crown. But I want to know will the crown stand out? will u notice it or will it look like its rooted in your gums?? I just dont want a big stupid tooth sticking out... I would really like to know :)

  1. Well, I think you should think about this deeply. If the tooth is only a little bit chipped, then you should just leave the filling. If about half of it is chipped off then you should think about a crown. The thing is, you do not want a gold crown because those stand out too much. Get one that looks like your tooth is just a little discolored and isn't rotten.

  2. Crown is the way, though pricey. Don't worry your dentist will color match it with the rest of your teeth and nobody is going to notice it.

  3. MARI,

AN AESTHETIC CROWN WILL BEAUTIFULLY MATCH ALL OF YOUR FRONT TEETH, NOT ONLY IN COLOR BUT SIZE.

  4. matching a crown color will be twice as hard as composite ... i would advise you to go to another dentist who is familiar with shade selection in composite .. there r various techniques .. horizontal condensation , vertical , incorporation of two or three shades , enamel , dentin ,.. body and incisal shades .. it takes a skillful dentist ..so its not your fault , i think you should see a specialized dentist ...mainly interested in aesthetic filling , if you ever come to Egypt i can help you with it ..:) but i dont think crown is gonna solve the problem , remember .. u cant change the color of the crown after its been delivered.

  5. It would probably be a good idea to crown it. However, if you've had this much trouble finding a good color match with the composite, you may have trouble coloring matching for the crown as well. Request to your dentist to personally visit the lab where the crown will be made (they're not made at the dentist office), and the lab techs can see your teeth and take pictures and custom make a shade that will match your other teeth.
