Should I get a cruiser or a mountain bike for UCSB?

I don't go to UCSB, but I have friends there and I visit Isle vista (the student neighborhood) every so often. Most people have mountain bikes, but cruisers are pretty sweet. If you get a nice one, you'll definitely turn some heads (in a good way). The bike roads are paved and flat, so you won't really have a problem getting to places. Word of caution: get a nice bike lock.
