Should I get a different racket because I am a beginner, or is what I have okay?

I have a Yonex R22 racket, the one with the black and silver frame. I was wondering if I should just keep playing with this racket or get another racket. And how does the R22 match in performance to other rackets such as the ones made by Wilson, Prince, ect... ? I tried finding some positive feedback for it, but all I could find is that it's really good, there are no answers that were very specific... oh, and btw, its a light 4 1/2, and 63 pounds of string tension. That is all it shows on the racket. Thank you for your answers!

  1. i think if this racquet suits you just fine (i.e., you can hit your strokes well without causing injuries) then you should be okay. doesn't really matter if you're a beginner or a pro, if you don't feel quite comfortable with your current racquet, by all means change.

prior to buy a new racquet, do some research on the internet. try browsing http://www.tennis-warehouse.com or other websites. you can also buy it online. but if you decide to visit a shop, bring your racquet to the shop and ask for a new racquet with physical properties (weight, headsize, balance, string pattern, grip size, beam width, stiffness, etc.) to your likings, using your current racquet as reference. for example, you might tell them that you want a new racquet heavier than your current one, bigger headsize, etc.

you might also want to tell the shop guys about your style - heavy baseliner, serves and volleys, net rusher, etc. this might add to consideration when they suggest new racquet for you. also tell them whether you hit flat shots or with topspins. yonex racquets (esp RQ series) are known for their easy access to spins - you might not want to lose this in your new racquet.

if possible, ask the shop guys for a demo - means you can try the racquet before you pay for it.

i don't think i can compare racquet performances, it all comes back to the player behind it. hope it helps :)

  2. You should keep because you will get more experience with thst racket

  3. As much as you can afford, buy the most expensive racket that is in the market today... if your opponent would know this, they will be appalled and you got the advantage....
