Question:

Should I get a digital SLR?

I found a deal on a 10 MP Olympus. I have a baby on the way and I LOVE Photography. It use to be a hobby of mine till my old 35 mm SLR passed on. I have been wanting a new one for years now. Should I break down and get it, or save my money. I already have a little point and shoot digital.

It would be nice to get some beautiful photos of my baby girl. There are so many things you can do with a SLR you can't with the point and shoot. I am so torn.

What you do think?

  1. Although the Olympus DSLR is a nice camera, IMO you might want to consider the Sony A300.

There are simply more accessories available for the A300 since it can use every legacy Minolta Maxxum AF lens made since 1985 and it can use most all accessories for the Konica-Minolta D5 & D7 DSLR cameras.

Although both Olympus and Sony employ in-camera Image Stabilization, they do it differently. Olympus uses "Digital Image Stabilization" which is done by boosting the ISO - and that results in lower image quality. Sony employs a moveable sensor to eliminate any unintended camera movement.

You might also find the tiltable Live View screen on the A300 to be very useful when photographing your daughter. Children are best photographed at their level so when she starts crawling you can simply flip the screen up, compose, focus and shoot. No need for you to be lying on the floor with her.

    Good luck and congratulations.
