Question:

Should I get a foot tattoo as my first tattoo?

I turn 18 next week, and as a birthday present to myself I'm hoping to get a tattoo. I've had my heart set on a certain design and location for ages now - 2.5inch outline of a star, on the top of my foot, right up by my ankle - but I've recently been researching it, and I'm a little worried now. I've heard that the colour fades extremely quickly, and its the most painful place to get a tattoo. Ok so I'm not particularly fussed about the pain, but I'd rather not go through it if the colours going to fade after a year or so. Would I need to keep going for touch-ups, and if so, roughly whats the standard price for these?

And before anyone says it, I'd really rather not get a tattoo on my shoulder, arm or thigh :)

Thanks guys!

  1. i dont think you should get a star on your foot as your first tattoo. its not unbarable pain.... but having 2 tattoos (hip being first, foot being second) i would go with somewhere were you have a little more flesh.

  2. Every decade has its signature look: this decade was the tattooed-flip flop-trailer trash look, but this deacade is almost over and there is going to be a major shift in style next year and having a tattoo will be like having a permanent mullet! Or you could just get RANDOM tattooed across you forehead.

    enjoy your future

  3. as my 18th birthday present to myself i bought myself this

which was my first ever tattoo

as long as you look after your tattoo properly(not just during the healing process) your feet can look sweet for YEARS to come :)

my feet cost me £160(about $320) at discount, but wouldve normally been £210(about $420)each foot took about 1hr1/2

the only thing i recommend is not planning anything after because they do swell up making it painful to walk on

just eat a big breakfast and the idea that youre going to have a lovely tattoo will get you through the pain

if youre a girl just wear ballet pumps, so theres nothing that can rub on the tattoo

  4. no way u should get something like a star or a religious tattoo or sumthing else but a foot thats just weird

  5. I have the tops both my feet tattooed and have had for 2 years. Mine aren't faded at all but I do take care of my tattoos. I don't go out in the sun without sunscreen and I still keep them moisturized. So I think its a combination of that and the location. I had to have one small spot touched up where a scab feel off too early in the shower one day. But other than that I love my tattoos.

  6. It's up to you, but the foot is a decidedly painful place,.. but hey, after that all the rest will be a breeze!

As far as fading and such, this link should help you out:

Just be informed, do more than excellent aftercare and maintenance,

    and sunblock for life.

While healing if you can really baby it and keep off of it (especially the 1st 3 days - a week) that'll really help.

You will need occasional touch ups, your lifestyle and foot wear will make a difference.

  7. i got my first on my foot it covers the whole top!! it realy doesnt hurt like every one says!! you will probly pay about 100 dollars!!

  8. no, thats the most painful. its on the bone

  9. Id be more worried about the pain, especially since its your first and you dont know what to expect but i guess since its just a star it will be over fast so it shouldnt be that bad. anyways, i have a large piece covering the tops of both my feet and i have had them for more than a year and it still looks pretty much the same as when i first got it. the only fading thats there is from the straps of my flip flops rubbing it while it was still healing (i thot they would be better than shoes but i guess it was a loose/loose situation for me since the piece was so big). i just make sure to still keep them moisturized everyday to prolong the fading as much as possible. im sure someday they'll need a touch up, but then again, all of my tats probably will. thats something im willing to deal with.

  10. If you really want it, then go for it.  Just make sure you are ready for the pain and maintenance of your foot tattoo.  As long as you take care of it really well, i think it won't fade that easily.

  11. For a first tattoo i would NOT recommend a foot tattoo.

it hurts like h**l! my foot tattoo is about 3.5 inches wide and about 5 inches long.

i got mine for $80. but thats because i know people.

it took about 3 1/2 hours all in one session and there is about 15 colors in it. so it would've been probally $250-300 because of ink and labor.

as for the color fading. im not sure if its true. mine did fade but it also got infected from over medicating it.

    so just be careful!
