Should I get a golf lesson? I play to a 14 handicap?

I've never had a lesson. What should I expect when I go? Is my current swing going to get tweaked pretty good by the pro? Should I get a lesson?

  1. depends if you can afford them or not, remember you wont improve straight away, it will take at least 10 lessons before you will see any difference and even then its very minimal.

Time is of vital importance, have you got time to practice what you have been taught. If you dont have the time then it is asinine to even contemplate having lessons.

Look at Tiger woods, the best golfer ever it took him a year and a half to alter his swing, and he practices every single day.

I would recommend only having lessons if you have the time to practice and can afford it. Being of 14 you can play a decent round already, so is it worth it.

  2. Absolutely.  A good teacher will send you home with drills and homework, many of which you can do in your living room, without a golf club.  Forget what people say about not seeing immediate improvement.  If you do the drills and practice, as a 14, you will see immediate improvement.  If you are a +7 like Tiger, it takes a lot of time and work just to improve a little.  The key is to practice the drills.  Most people take lessons, and then never practice what they've been taught, and that's why they don't get results.

  3. Yes, go get a lesson.  Even pros seek and need lessons.  The best way to approach your first lesson is to go with an open mind and expect that the lessons will help you.  Don't be defensive and approach the teacher with respect.  That way you will get more out of the lessons.

  4. yes, u wil learn great drills and he will definatly fix your problems if listen to him and work hard

  5. I think that lessons would be a great way to fine tune your game and shave some strokes off your score. I went from a 30 handicap to a 10 in about three months with private lessons so I highly recomend lessons

Also, to bojo, tiger woods is not a seven handicap. He might be a negative seven handicap but not a seven.

  6. Of course you should!!! If you are willing to work really hard on what they teach you, then it will totally be worth it! But if you dont have time to practive it really hard until it is "DNA" then it's probably not worth your money! I would totally recommend one, if you are planning to get any better!!

  7. A good pro will take the swing you have and refine some of the technique.

I think it would be well worth your money

  8. yes

  9. If tiger woods takes golf instructions we should take golf instructions. The golf instructor should interview you and find out what your concerns are about your game, and address those areas. There job is not necessarily to change your swing but to help you lower your score, and make your game more enjoyable.

  10. unless you are tiger woods, there is always room to improve. If you have a good swing, then they will work on other aspects of your game. There is something that makes you a 14 handicap, and they will work on that and make you a much better golfer.

  11. Yes you should get a lesson.  Listen to what the pro tells you and shows you and don't give up on it.  One of the best things you can get from lessons is to understand the Geometry of the golf swing.

After you get that, more of the things you read will make sense.

  12. If you watch the golf channel enough then you wont need to pay for a lesson otherwise go for it. Take all advice you learn and meld it into your personal knowledge of your swing.

In other words their is no complete right or wrong if the pro want your swing more upright and on plane try experiment

and find what works for you. Its pretty much common sense to me a swing that's to upright lacks power and a swing that's to flat requires to much timing with the hands. Somewhere in between flat and upright works the best for most golfers. So get a lesson take what you want from it like set up advice stance tweaking etc ... Don't listen to the old adage you have to get worse to get better that's garbage you should see immediate results otherwise go to another pro.

  13. If you want to improve, you need to know what area to start. Take a private lesson with a good PGA pro is the fastest way. You may ask your friends to tape your swing motion and look at it yourself assuming you have knowledge about what the good swing should look like. David Leadbetter has published a four DVD learning program, in which one DVD has taught you how to analyze your swing.
