Should I get a guinea pig or two hamsters?

I'm wanting a small pet and I narrowed it down between a guinea pig and a hamster. I know that guinea pigs don't bite they just nibble but they can be pricey and I already have a cage but not sure if its for hamsters or guinea pigs though. It should keep either of them busy while im at school because it has tunnels and a wheel. Can I have a top and bottom dollar for both?

  1. guinea pig

  2. forget them both and go for rats :D

they are like small dogs that don't bark and don't need to be walked ^_^

  3. get a guinea-pig, they're much friendlier than hamsters.. hamsters tend to sleep all day.

Guinea-pigs are such loving pets, i miss mine.

They're not expensive to keep at all, all you need is some mix for them & some veg each day.

You can usually find shelters where you can get guinea-pigs for free too as long as you show they're going to go to a good home.

  4. I have 3 three hampsters and I love them and they R sofun to play with.

  5. hamsteers

  6. two hamsters...i had two and they grew really big :) they could be considered as guinea pigs...plus they are a lot cuter :)

  7. I strongly suggest getting two guinea pigs; I have had many over the years and they are very fun and easy to care for. It sounds like the cage you have won't work for guinea pigs though; wheels especially are very dangerous to guinea pig's backs and they need a lot of room. I suggest making your own cage for next to nothing, like from this website: guineapigcages.com. Also, adopting two guinea pigs from a shelter or getting one from someone giving their guinea pig away wouldn't be expensive at all compared to a pet store, and you would be more likely to know what you are getting :)

  8. I have had both... I LOVED my guinea pigs, they were so fun and loving but if I were you I would NOT get one unless you have at least an hour a day to spend with em. Hamsters are independent and don't need a lot of attention; however, g.p. have 'emotional needs' and need that one on one time with you... so I guess it depends on the amount of time you have for a critter.

  9. I think the better choice would be a Guinea pig because like you said they don't bite and they are more playful than hamsters and usually like to be held.

  10. A guinea pig will live a lot longer than a hamster, so if you want a pet that lives around ten years than get a guinea pig, most hamsters live about 2-3 years of age. Also some hamsters can be very small so they can squeaze through small cracks in a cage, make sure the holes in the cage(if there are any) are not big enough for a hamster to fit through. Guinea pigs are bigger and any cage should be fine. Guinea pigs also can't climb but hamsters can.

  11. u should think it over and see wat u like most

  12. get a boa constrictor

    or a bunny rabbit

    or both

but NOT in the same cage

  13. 2 hamsters will kill eachother so i would get a guinnie pig

their also so cute and hamsters only live 1000 days

    i know...bummer

  14. Get a hamster

not two tho. if you put them in the same cage they fight because theyre territorial

or you could get 2 seperate cages i guess for them

  15. depends, how big the cage is.

i'd go with 2 hamsters because when i had my guinea pig it didn't fit in any tunnels or wheels.

  16. guinea pig.

  17. ide get one hampster . :D

  18. Get a guinea pig!

They can tell you how they feel, and they love to be cuddled...

BUT if you don't have a couple hours in a day, or YEARS in your life i would get a hamster.

That is most likely a hamster cage because tunnels and wheels can ingure and Will MOST LIKELY KILL YOUR GUINEA PIG.

  19. I would suggest getting hamsters. They are smaller, and easier to care for. Plus some guinea pigs do bite really hard. The cost for hamsters can run anywhere from $5-$20 if you buy them at a pet store. Don't get two males unless you separate them. They will try to kill eachother. Good Luck =]
