  1. Aleasha, African Hedgehogs aren't actually pygmies. That's a pretty common misnomer. They are sometimes called pygmies because they are so much smaller than most of the European species, but they aren't pygmies. :)

    1. It can hurt if you get poked, but it usually doesn't make you bleed or anything. Once your hedgie gets to know you, it usually wont try to poke you any more. You could get a pair of leather gloves to practice holding it while it gets to know you.

    2. The only kind of hedgehog commonly available in US is the African Hedgehog. There are actually about 5 species of African hedgehogs that have been interbred so that it's hard to tell them apart now. They are all about the same anyways. Here is a site with all the different colours so you can pick one:

    3. Name it whatever you want! Mine are named Eddie, Chaos, Amy, and Harriette.

    4. You should always try to find a private breeder in your area to buy a pet from. You should NEVER buy from a pet store, even if that means you can't get the pet. You could also try finding one in a shelter or rescue. If you let us know what area you live in, we can help find some hedgies for you.

This site has links to breeders and rescues:

  2. my friend's sister has a hedgehog and it is sooooo adorable! and she is really sweet. so yea i think you should get one, they are happy that they got one!

  3. Don't worry! My friend has a hedgehog and they're surprisingly friendly. Why don't you name it sonic?! Or shadow or knuckes or silver? JK a name will come to you

  4. i dont think you should get a hedge hog as it s a wild animal and hasnt been domesticated such as cats and dogs

also because they can have hudreds of untreatable diseases and vets cant cure it with no other choice to put the animal to sleep.

  5. The exotic African Pygmy Hedgehog, which became popular in zoos in the 1980's, is becoming increasingly more popular as a pet.
