  1. i'd say syrian as i prefer thema nd one male as i had these and i found them always friendly but thats opinion :)

see if any friends have them and go to your pet shop and ask to see the diffrent types to see what they prefer beware you need dif cages for dwarf ad some don't like company :)

    new bit:

not all hamsters are solitary some dwarf aren't!!! but you must makesure before oyu buy or they will kill each other and not all dwarf are 'happy' witht there house mates

  2. First of all, hamsters are solitary creatures...they can NOT be housed together.

Males and females are pretty much the same, but females are more active and much neater then males. It's true. Plus, males tend to have big, dangling boy parts...of course, they can't help it...but I'd go with a girl.

PS: Personality counts too, you can get a perfectly active male and a lazy female.

    Goodluck! I love hamsters. ^^

  3. I would say teddy bear hamster, and if you're only getting one the s*x doesn't matter.  If you're getting 2, I'd say 2 females.  Syrian hamsters tend to more more territorial and violent.

  4. I have a Chinese Dwarf Hamster, female names Cheeks. I had two but one was very hostile to the other so I took it back.  They are small (hence "dwarf") and are about the size of a Gerbil.

  5. If you are going to get a teddy bear hamster [[best choice]] A female, cause there butts don't stick out! But if you do decide to get a bot, you should name it Alvan:Alven:Alvin!

  6. get a golden hamster. robovowskis are for people who have had harder hamsters to take care of. don't buy a syrian. they bite really hard. don't breed a syrian either they can have up to 36 babies. dwarf hamsters are sweet but bite a lot. golden hamsters are really nice  and are great for beginners. teddy bear hamsters are kind of aggresive so be careful.

  7. Teddy Bear hamster. I would say female. But when you are at the pet store hold a female, see if she is nice. Then hold a male, see if he is nice. Which ever appeals to you.

  8. It does not really matter; Boys tend to have ugly behinds though.

If you want a more "cuddly" and less active pet, get a syrian. If you want a more "active" pet, get 2 or more dwarfs.

Note that if you are giving this to a child, or a child will handle it, get a syrian because if dwarfs are never tamed and get neglected, they will go wild and may bite.

Dwarf hamsters look like cute little furballs and grow up to 4 inches. It's best to keep them in same-s*x pairs or groups. They tend to be fast though and are hard to keep still. I've heard they have biting tendencies. I haven't met one that bit me. here are 4 breeds, or types, of dwarf hamsters. Campbell's, Djungarians, Siberians or Winter Whites, and Chinese, although Chinese is considered sometimes as not a dwarf nor a syrian. Must be tamed through their whole life.

Syrian hamsters are bigger, and slower. They can grow to 8 inches, and need bigger habitats. They MUST be solitary.

They come in more color and breeds than dwarves.

Once they are tame, always tame, even if neglected. I met a syrian that bit me, but it was never given much attention, and lived in a dark closet. (only lived for 6months lol.)

  9. Long haired teddy bear hamster, male. The males are more active and cute, I'll e-mail you some pics of mine. They're kinda big, though but they'll still fit into a regular hamster cage. With this kind you should feed it one of these foods to help prevent teeth overgrowth. Vita-Vittles or Dental Bites for hamsters. Also, get him a running ball to put him in when you clean his cage. Don't feed him veggies, because this type of hamster doesn't like them and just won't eat them, believe me, I've tried! You probably know hamsters are nocturnal, so what else? Oh, yeah, this type of hamsters LOVES dried up corn, so make sure that if you don't buy one of my recommendations, you make sure to look and see if there's dried up corn in it. My hamster loves to walk around in the cage I have, the habitrail commonly found in Petco.

Petco is the store where I got my hamster, so try there if you want to get a long haired teddy bear hamster.

  10. i have no experience with hamsters, but with rats the males are more cuddle and more human oriented.

  11. I used to own a male hamster, and he was very friendly.

Female hamsters tend to be more aggressive than male hamsters, however, it's been said that male hamsters require more cleaning out.

    Hope this helped :)
