I am 13 years old (girl) living with my 15 year old brother and parents. 3/4 of the people in my house are allergic to dogs so thats out of the question.

My parents work full time so no one is home in the day because me and my brother are at school. Our house has lots of space in it for a cage or something and I prefer and indoor pet that I can cuddle. (Cats are out of the question because I dont like them). But I was thinking about a rabbit. Ive done lots of research but my parents are still unsure of the idea.

How do I ask my parents to get me a pet. The always go back in time to when I was 8 and had two gerbils... The gerbils lived for 5 years but somehow they thought that I didnt take care of them... Ive tried to tell them that I did but my dads always like "nope it was me". So how can I ask them In a way that theyll want to get one.

PS : I have a GPA of 96 and am very responsible. The pet would most likely be in my room. Ive already written a 6 page persuasive essay.

  1. I would start with a Guinea pig. Some people that are allergic to cats are allergic to rabbits.  Guinea pigs are very easy to take care of with the proper diet and could live for 7-8 years, but most of them only live 3-5 years. If you get a rabbit I would suggest having them spayed or neutered, they have a longer life expectancy and make nicer pets. With rabbits you can litter train them and let them hop around the house as long as the electrical cords are out of the way. They seem to like to eat them. Don't bug your parents to much it may make them mad and you won't get any form of pet.

  2. They are often overlooked, but I really enjoyed having pet mice.  If you get them as young as possible, then you can train them to be really tame, and they're pretty easy to look after - perhaps if you could prove to your parents how well you could look after a mouse or two, then you could get something like a rabbit.

Mine used to l**k yoghurt from my fingertips, it was so cute!

  3. You should get a dwarf rabbit. They are very easy to take care of, and they take up very little space. You should do lots of research on them, including what they eat, how big of cage it needs, how long they live, what kind of bedding they need, and everything else they need. Then, when you go to your parents, they will see how responsible you really are. I have had one for eight years, and even my dad loves it, even though he doesn't like animals!

  4. you should get a rabbit. but it would have to a pet-store trained one, because beleive it or not, bunnies are vicious! if not, i would get a little white rat, but be sure to keep it in your hands, a ball, or it's cage. i had a hamster, and so did my sis. mine died before hers, and hers went up through a hole in the wall while she was playing with it! it didn't come out, so we use a humane trap filled with hamster food. it was safe, but my dad told my sis to keep him in the cage all the time from then on. i, personally, would like a tortise, because the eat leaves, don't run away, and live longer than humans so i wouldn't have to go through the sad death of a pet. good luck!

  5. I suggest getting a couple of fish first to see if you like cleaning the tank and the feeding schedule etc...  You sound very responsible and I think you would do a great job with even a dog or cat but you must put their needs very high on your priorities and that can be tough...  Just start small.

  6. I love hamsters, even though a lot of people think they are horrible pets. Hamsters are easy to care for, active, clean, smart, cute, and just fun! I have had so many hamsters in the past and currently have 3. They amuse me every single day, and with one of my hamsters, I can put him in my hand, turn him on his back, pet his head, and he'll fall asleep. Either hamsters or guinea pigs are good choices.

  7. Hi!!

    You should get rats!!!

They are such great pets, they love to cuddle, and are extremely friendly!  You sound perfect to take care of one too!!  I LOOOVE mine!  Make sure you research any pets before you get them though!  I am thirteen too, and I have two ratties, and they are the greatest!  Ask anybody who has a pet rat, and they will tell you they are AWESOME pets.  I know some ppl are opposed to them, but I personally love them.  =)

  8. I suggest a guinea pig. They are easier to take care of than rabbits but are more fun and cuddly than hamsters or gerbils.

If you took the time to write a six page persuasive essay I think will be able to take the time to take care of a pet!

  9. Consider a hamster, gerbils can give you problems.

My daughters first pets were hamsters they are fun and you can play with them, get them a ball to run in and they make you laugh (you can get roadsters for them too)
