I have been looking for a cheap musical instrument that I can self teach myself; a friend suggested the recorder. I found a 2-piece recorder complete with cleaning rod, grease, notation chart, tutor book and bag for £10 in the Argos catalogue. Should I get it? Can you think of anything else?

  1. A recorder is a good bet. A harmonica will probably be slightly more expensive, but is classier.

  2. a set of spoons....makes you learn rhythm and it is cheap

  3. If you're going to go that route, maybe try a penny-whistle.  Lots of fun gigs and reels and folksongs that would be fun to play and easily recognizable.  Better than recorder songs.
