Should I get an MRI at a "teaching hospital" because it is cheaper?

I can't expect the same degree of professionalism can I?

  1. Your degree of expertise will be higher. Every intern on that rotation will look over the test, make notes and then it will go to the teaching doctor before any results will be given to you.

    My doctor is one of those that is always working with new doctors and my treatment has been the finest. The intern gets to learn while you get 4 or more medical experts viewing your tests.


  2. I agree with the previous poster. Teaching hospitals have a lot of advantages over non-teaching institutions, in my experience. A lot more people looking at your problem and asking good questions. You will probably be questioned and examined more than once, if you are on their clincal service. If you are just simply having an MRI, you will probably notice little difference, but all the thinking will be going on behind the scenes.

  3. Absolutely, even the Mayo clinic is considered a teaching facility.  It is a wonderful way to save money and get top notch care.
