Question:

Should I get an implant or a bridge??

I have a missing tooth on the front of my mouth (it's not noticable because i wear a retainer with a fake tooth). Originally, I was planning on getting an implant, but I just found out today that my orthodontist wants to wait until i'm 18 or 19. I'm 15 right now and DO NOT want to wait that long.

My parents gave me the option of getting a bridge, but I'm not really sure about it.

If I decide to get a bridge, I could get it done within this next year.

  1. I understand how important it is for you to take care of this problem. I think you should listen to your orthodontist though.

There may be a really good reason for waiting on the implant, like bone growth in your jaw or something.

Ask if you can get a good medical explanation for the delay or go for a second opinion. Maybe the expense for the implant is too much for your folks right now.

Believe it or not those three or four years will go really quick. You could help pay for the expense of the implant if you save over that time. The bridge would help your appearance now and later the implant will be a longer lasting solution.

  2. AN IMPLANT CAN BE A TYPE OF ROLLS ROYCE COMPARED TO A CADILLAC OF THE BRIDGE.

A BRIDGE RUINS 2 GOOD TEETH. AN IMPLANT RUINS NONE.

  3. I assume by "bridge" you mean a partial denture.  A bridge is something that involves capping the teeth on both sides of the missing tooth.  Your orthodontist is correct on having you wait.  You will still be growing until your late teens and I feel that it's best to wait until then to have implants.  If you are doing OK with your retainer then you will be OK with the partial denture until you can do the implant/crown.  Good luck!
