  1. First off, hermit crabs thrive on a community of other little hermit crabs.  They're very social critters.  Have you ever thought that you're doing something wrong since they're always dying on you?  Are feeding them good food?  Is their water in a sponge plate?  Have you done research on them?

  2. I suggest you go research for a week. I did.

I have two now and the water is perfect and food.

Is your water decolonized and salted with adding Aquarium salt?   Is your food and water changed everyday and is the tank misted every other day?

I learned most of that by a week of research on everything I could find....so I copied/paste info...printed and read.   If they keep dying.....please stop buying them and give the one away to someone who knows what to do.    Its called..."RESEARCH"  please do that.....then get everything it needs not just some of what it needs.

  3. hurmit crabs are HARD pets to keep alive. most people don`t realise they need a 80% humity and salt water bowel in additon to there normal water bowel. getting 80% humity is hard, ihave to keep a sheet of glass over 3/4 my tank, and use cocnut bark bedding in addtion to misting everyday. do some reserch, i think you will be surpised to find out how unsimple they really are. Before getting another one i would look at your tank setup and see if may there is reason why they are dieing.

  4. Hermit Crabs live in large groups. They love company. I'd recommend buying two more instead of one, just so the one you buy, has a friend that was with them in the store. When I buy any, i always buy atleast two for that reason.

But, before you do that realize they need the temperature around 70ish, and humidity around 80's. They need three dishes. A dechlorinated fresh water dish, a dechlorinated MARINE salt water dish, and food (BUT MAKE SURE THE FOOD HAS NO COPPER!!) Hermit crabs are sensitive to metal. Its even best if you feed them unseasoned meats, veggies, and fruits (no citrus). But I understand thats lil difficult sometimes.

Contrary to what people think, they really dont need sponges, UNLESS the humidity in your tank is too low, OR you have small and large crabs, and the smaller ones need help getting out of the water bowls and dont drown. And DO NOT put the whole sponge in the bowl. These guys are from the OCEAN! They need to be able to submerge in the water to replinish and put water into there shells.

They also need a lot of shells. If you dont, fights for the shells can occur. If you look in the reptile section and find my name, you can see the set up of my tank.

And it depends on how big you want your next crab. I have four. Two are from the same store, around the same size, and the other two are of the same size and from the same store. I make sure they have familiar company and atleast more than one of their size so they dont feel to intimidated.

    I hope I helped!
