  1. Oh yes! Absolutely!  Get 2 more!  No, I'm kidding but budgies are perhaps the one bird species that really, really need one another more than any other breed.  In the wild, they travel in flocks of thousands, it's quite a miracle to see all of these little individuals communicating and moving as one giant, fluid organism.  I had a budgie that I got from the Humane Society.  He was an older fellow and and had spent his entire life alone, in a cage with only a mirror for company.  When I brought him home to my flock (I think I had 7 or so at that time), he didn't know what to do, how to act and ignored everyone for almost 1 year.  I could tell he was a bit neurotic and was most comfortable staying close to his mirror.  I added one or two more budgies over time and eventually he fell in love and started being a normal bird.  It was so great watching him slowly coming out of that shell, becoming part of the flock, being accepted. I felt I had really done a good deed.  As I said, he was an older bird and eventually passed on to budgie heaven but he died a happy bird that finally got to have a normal bird life.  So yes, please get your bird a friend, it doesn't matter if male or female, they just need their own company.  Introduce them slowly and don't put them both in one cage right away. You'll love watching them, budgies make fast friends.  Thank you for thinking of him and not just of yourself.  Best of luck and all happiness to you and your flock.

  2. just hide it in your locker with alot of food

  3. well i had the same problem but my bird would beat up the other budgie!

I am almost never home but i didn't get another budgie! all i did was get it lots of toys. it was alone a lot but it got used to the toys ad now it plays with it a lot

  4. I had a friend who got 1 parakeet.  He never talked or sang.  She thought he was lonely so she bought another parakeet.  Now the 2 birds will not shut up, they constantly sing ALL DAY LONG!.  She couldn't stand it so she gave the birds to me.  She was right, they never shut up.  If you get that second bird and then take them up to college, there will be no hiding them in a dorm room, they will make their presence known.  As far as the one being tame, if you get another one, as long as you still continue to work with the 1st one, the second one will follow suit and follow the example of the 1st one, but you have to keep at it.  It will be too easy to just let them hang out by themselves and ignore you.  Because the birds will pay more attention to each other than they will to you.
