Question:

Should I get birth control because of my period?

Usually the first two days of my period are heavy (have to change my tampon about every two hours) with bad cramping. The next day is usually very light, then the fourth day is regular, then light again. I usually don't bleed at all during the night, so I just wear a pad. But there is some mornings were I wake up and my pad is overflowing with blood. Should I go on birth control to give me shorter and lighter periods?

  1. Depends on your age, do you smoke, etc.  I would speak with your gyn (if you dont have one go to planned parenthood).  The pill has made my periods lighter and over less days.

  2. My opinion is no. Unless you are having extremely bad cramps and heavy bleeding that is interfering with your daily activities, I would not go on birth control. Birth control pills are a drug that effects your hormones, and they can have some bad side effects. They did for me anyway.

  3. its all up to u!

  4. If you want to, you can. Hormonal BC methods all have negative side effects though, and you may want to consider whether you would rather suffer through your periods or the negative side effects. Personally, I would just take some ibuprofen and deal with it, I hate hormones. Here are some of the negative side effects:

Major: Blood clot, heart attack, stroke, unwanted facial hair(these are all RARE)

Minor: Weight gain, acne, moodiness, low s*x drive, irregular bleeding/spotting

Talk to your doctor though if you are really tired of it, there is something she/he can do to help! Good luck:)
