Should I get braces?HELP?

hey i'm fifteen (going into year 11 at school) and i've been offered train tracks by my dentist. they only go on my top teeth and i will have them for 6-9 months.

My teeth arent wonky but one of my front teeth is slightly furthur forward than the other. i also feel my fang teeth stick out too far but the dentist said they are fine and wont be changed by braces. although i would like to have my teeth sorted they are not bad and better than a lot of other peoples.

the reason i dont want to get them is mainly cosmetic although i dont want to miss school for brace appointments. in year 11 we will have our prom and end of school photos and i dont want to remembered as the 'one with braces'. i'm also worried about getting a prom date. although i'm quite pretty and get on with boys only weird boys tell me they fancy me and although i'm friends with them i wouldnt want to go as their prom date. i dont want to get braces and ending up with no prom date.

please help

thanks

  1. okayy look ;

    think of the future ahead of you. i cann understand why you wouldnt want to get them but having messed up teeth in the future might be devasting. some poeple are very cruel out there and make decisions just based on your looks. make it one less thing you have to worry about and get those braces on. it will make a diffrence and you will end up with beautiful teeth for the future. good luck.

  2. you should only get them if you are very self concious about your teeth if they arent that bad.

    are invisalign an option? talk to your parents and dentist about it.

  3. yeh really get one i know it sounds horrible but its well worth it i had to get mine about a month ago for the same reason as you but they say 9-18 months but in one month mine has moved alot and almost finished they just say that to get the time to book you in for appointments i think and why have slightly wonky teeth when you can have perfect and it will cost you £2500 minimum after you 17

    i got mine near the end of year 11 and im really glad i did now i like the result and at the very end you get £250 worth of whitening done

    so get it and you will not be disappointed

  4. Then don't get braces until later! You have the obligation to get them whenever you want, so you can even get them after highschool! If you feel that your teeth are fine then you don't need them at all.

  5. definitely ask a ortho. i had braces when i was junior in high school as well. no one really cares about other ppl with braces anymore. ppl actually liked the way they looked. i got mine for cosmetic reason as well, and now that they're off, i kind da miss them lol. i went to prom and took pics w/ my braces on too and they turned out just fine so it's not a big deal.......

  6. Don't worry about how you will look now, think about how you will look later in life if you don't get braces, especially when your wisdom teeth grow in and start pushing your teeth together. Nine months of braces now as opposed to a lifetime of crooked teeth. Not too hard to decide.  Also, don't worry about missing school, just have your parent make the appts. for after school hours. One more thing, if the boys your are considering going to the prom with are that shallow, why the h**l would you want to hang with them anyway?

  7. nobody on here can tell you would you need to do. if you NEED the braces and you can afford them, get them. but if you don't NEED them for health purposes, then don't get them. but this is all up to you, not us.

    and besides, braces dont make you ugly. for you to say that braces make you ugly, you just insulted like, 70% of the world. alot of teenagers have braces, and they are beautiful.

    some people actually look BETTER with braces. and after you get them off, you generally look 110% better than you did before.
