  1. I have dental implants and love them. See my avatar that is my new smile.  To get a dental implant it does not hurt because they numb you. If you have a tooth pulled the same day you get the dental implant then your more sore after from the tooth removal than the actual implant is it is the removal of the tooth roots that cause the pain. Having dental implants do not hurt one bit as you cannot even feel them once they have bonded to the bone. Yes you can eat the same day as you get them providing you are very careful not to get food down into the implant itself.

Are you aware that dental implants are approached differently by different dental professionals? Most generally dentists themselves are not skilled to place implants. Please don't go to just anyone. I had a dental professional called a Prosthodontist who is a specialist in replacement teeth.  You can choose an Oral surgeon or Periodontist to place you implant but often you have to have a dentist place the teeth.

There are two ways dental professionals approach implant placement. The traditional way (old way really) dental professionals pull the teeth then you wait till that area heals. Then when they place the implant they bury the implant under the gums for a few months before uncovering the implant and attaching the abutments then the teeth a little while later. Often you wear a denture or partial during the waiting period.

In my case I had what is called "teeth in a day" all my teeth were pulled, implants placed and new teeth attached in one day. I never was without teeth and the type of teeth I have never come out and are as permanent as natural teeth are.

Do your home work in the area you live. Write me if you would like.

  2. The decision for getting dental implants can be finalized after the condition of your jaw bone is determined. There are many other factors that need to be considered such as general health, some habits ...smoking should be avoided though not a total contraindication. If person is a diabetic , should be under control.

Once all these conditions are passed you can get an implant from a skilled dentist or an implantologist. A WELL PLACED implant in a healthy mouth does not hurt. One should practise regular dental check-up and good oral hygiene methods, both as prescribed by the dentist.

Regarding eating with implants,,,, any prosthesis, an artificial replacement takes time to adjust... over a period of use of the implant denture one can be comfortable eating, talking and living with it.
