Should I get modem?

I'm getting a new computer for my room. We have another computer in the office that goes online. I'm trying to find a way to get my new desktop to go online. Now would a modem make this go online? Or is there something else I can do.

P.s. Cost is important

If your office has broadband you  will need a router for more than one machine to connect to  the internet. A modem will only give you a 56kbps connection, almost useless as downloads of anti-virus updates can take hours with this.

if your office is in the same location as your house or in your house all you need is a wireless router  set up is easy just put it in line between the modem and your computer
