  1. Another budgie could make a wonderful companion for him, so long as you can afford a second cage (a new bird can't be placed in the first bird's cage immediately or they'll fight and hate each other, and you need to quarantine the new bird first to make sure it isn't carrying any viruses), have the time to properly introduce them to each other, and understand that your first bird may not pay as much attention to you once it has a companion that is of the same species.

  2. It wouldn't be a bad idea but just make sure you can afford for vet care and food and treats and toys and all that.

  3. Budgies are highly social so a friend would be wonderful. Is he hand tame? I'd recommend you have him good and bonded to and hand tame before getting him a friend.

I'd also advise you adopt, since there are so many homeless budgies: http://www.petfinder.com/

Remember to quarantine a new bird in a separate room and cage for about 30 days to monitor it for illnesses it could pass on to your current bird. In that time, you can work on hand taming and bonding with the new bird as well since it's easier to do that while they are separate (remember to wash your hands well before handling your current bird after handling the new one so you don't break quarantine).

After that you can do slow introductions with them and slowly integrate them into the same cage.

    Good luck!
