My 8 y/o daughter has never been into video games but now she really wants a Wii. She's very imaginative and creative and I don't want her to turn into a video game junkie.

  1. I think the Wii is good because you are not just sitting there midlessly...you have to get up and do the action...so it can be benificial as well...

  2. Wii is an active video game - I suggest it.

  3. yeah sure.

she wont turn into a videogame junkie if you monitor her time playing and make sure she plays outside verey day :].

  4. Like everything else, just set limits. If you do that I can see no reason why not.

  5. There is some educational and fitness value to the Wii games.  Why not get her the Wii and place restrictions on how much she may use it.  For instance, "only on weekends and no longer than an hour per day" or something like that.

  6. If you can afford it, it is a great system. I do not like video games myself and we got our kids a Wii for Christmas and I have actually played it a lot with them. We have the Wii Sports, it has bowling, boxing, tennis and golf. We play the bowling and tennis a lot and laugh a lot as well, we play as a family at times. And Wii Play is also a lot of fun. I never thought I would enjoy video games.

The games are a lot but honestly they are for all systems unless they are older. I think it was a great investment. Look out for the new Wii Fit game though, I had thought of getting it for my kids and my sister said it logs your weight and she is 20 pounds overweight and it classified her as obese, I could see this being a big problem for young girls and image problems, so I will not be buying that game. My daughters are not overweight but I would not want it saying you need to loose 5 lbs at this age, my kids are 7 and 9.

They have a few games one of their favorite is the Hannah Montana and my oldest does not even really like her but the songs are fun and it teaches you the dance moves that she uses. And you get to go shopping in Paris etc. they love that game.

As far as the video game junkie, it is like all other things TV etc. you just have to limit the amount of time they do these things. My kids also love that mom will now play video games with them "not just dad" LOL.

  7. how about for christmas.

    wii is fun.

  8. yes because a wii is also excercise. you can also have fun with your daughter by versing her

  9. the Wii is a wonderful game,  if you want her to still be active you can buy WiiFit and you have to stand up to the play with Wii and move your hand alot, They have fun and creative games and me and my brothers have one and we always forget about it we havent played it all summer!!!!!!

    Its not addicting....

    To some ppl

  10. I would say no at this point.  Get her outside, pick something to train for and become good.at.  Triathlons for kids are fun, volley ball, swimming, have her fill her schedule where  she doesn't have a need for Wii.  Save it for when the kids have already learned time management with extracurricular activities.  High school is my vote.   She will thank you later with good grades, good health, and a strong ablity to think about what is important and why.

  11. We bought my 9yr old son a Wii for Christmas 2yrs ago. If it were up to him, he'd play with it 24/7. To break him out of playing video games so much, we bought him a computer last year so that in addition to playing video games, he could play educational games too.

My son isn't all that imaginative or creative. Whenever we took the Wii away, he'd just sit in his room and do nothing. We bought him a drum set and an easel, his grandparents bought him a guitar.. none of those things interest him. My boss bought my son a skateboard and he showed slight interest in that but nothing has struck his interest like the Wii. It can be very addicting. I even play with it sometimes.

  12. whats wrong with video game junkies?

I think yes! Theres alot of cool kiddie games!

Nothing wrong with video games! just dont get her ManHunt haha!

But umm yeah! Most deff. Cheap system.

  13. It's your decision, my advice? Get her the Wii and see what happens. Although, you should ask her why she wants it. If she just wants it because everyone else has it, don't buy it, it'll be such as waste of money. She'll play it once, get bored, and forget about it. However, if you did buy her a Wii ask her what game she wants, make sure it's age appropriate. Like I said before just get it for her, with the exception of the whole "All my friends have it" thing, in that case forget it, however you should just get it for her as a learning experience, if you get it she will probably become a vegtable for maybe a month or two but she'll grow out of it and if she doesn't play with it for a long time, don't buy her anymore game systems for a while, but if she does like it well, she won't turn into a junkie she'll just be having fun!

  14. You are going to get a lot of opinions on the Wii system some of which will disagree with getting one, and others that agree with getting one.

I disagree with the fitness part of the system unless you have WiiFit just because my fiance's brother has a Wii, and I personally watched him eat a bowl of cereal with one hand while playing Tennis with the other hand. I watched him also play some zombie game as well where he also just used one hand. From what I know about WiiFit, you are able to exercise by using aerobics, yoga, or other programs.

On the educational note, I know nothing about so I would suggest doing some research on the Wii before buying one. Look at customer reviews and such.

As someone said before me though, having your daughter only have a limited time to playing the Wii would be a wise choice so it's something that she wouldn't be doing 24/7.

Here is the link to the Wii website. I'm sure you can find more information about the system there.

  15. yes, you all can play together. they are very interactive and have accessories to help you exercise. give it a try, if theres a sign of addition, limit her access to it. you ARE the mom.

  16. Yes.

    Buy her the Wii system.

    Wii ROCKS!

  17. u can tell her to do chores and stuff 1st then play

  18. Well, tell her that she can have it if she doesn't get addicted. And give her a few warnings if she does, and if she does get addicted, don't let her play for like a month, and then let her play. On the plus side, it's quite a workout.

  19. Yeah i think you should. i mean wii is actually very active such as wii sports which comes with the game and wii is better for younger kids becuz most of the games for wii arent violent and r more fun animated games. If she does become addicted, put a limit on her gaming or encourage some kind of sport or other activity she enjoys

  20. I think the Wii is better than just any old video game because you can get up out of your chair and be active with it.

  21. no its a waste of money, send her to a dance class, gymnastics or karate..

  22. well if it is enough money for you to get it for her then sure.

but you need to limit her time on it, it is addicting and if she goes overboard on it, hide it until she took a break from it.

  23. I think u should buy the wii its addicting believe me. She should really like it.

  24. Well Wii is more for families then PS3 is.  Theres a lot of educational games and things on it also.  My husband and I have a Wii for ourselves.  On his day off (he works 6 days a week) when our daughter is down for her nap we play Mario Kart together and love it.  I also have the Wii Fit, and I do it everynight after my daughter goes to bed, and its a great workout.  So even you can use it to.

  25. Well, buy it and try and set limit for her to play so that she wont get addicted to wii.. Believe me, its ADDICTIVE!!..

  27. I think 8 is an ok age for a wii. You could just monitor how much she plays it. For example, an hour a day. Also, you should get her games for it that are age appropriate and will keep her mind active. (memory games, puzzles, etc) Also, I have played Tennis for Wii and it is a workout. Bowling is fun too and you could make it a family thing. Have a Wii night.

  28. My kids have a wii.  The good thing about it is that the games are active.  Your daughter will be able to play bowling and tennis and golf.  We actually play sometimes as a family and it is lots of fun.

  29. I think it's ridiculous to spend that much money on a Wii.  The games cost a fortune too.  When my child wanted a game system, I got a used Playstation on Ebay that came with 10 games for $65.
