I recently rescued 2 kittens from a local shelter, they have been terribly abused, they are 5 months old and one only weighs a bit over a pound, and the other isn't much bigger, they are the size of an 8 week old kitten, my vet checked them out yesterday and he said they are doing good, and are starting to get their adult teeth, but the one little guy always seem cold, his feet and his ears seem chilly, and he aways wants to curl up on me for warmth, I DONT MIND I actually love it but I want him to be comfortable, do you think it would be retarded to get him a little sweater?

and they are PURE breed Siamese, one seal point and one lilac point

  1. "we are Siamese if you please" i remember that movie.

i would not get the sweater. most cats wont accept it, plus being abused, he might feel like you are tormenting him. trying to keep him from walking.

he has found a human he loves. the human keeps him warm, he is happy. i would leave it alone.

cats are very good at adjusting body temp , by sleeping in the sun shine for example, he figured out how to warm himself, leave him be.

you could get him an old winter coat or flannel shirt to sleep on for when you are not around. rub it on your self so it smells like you.

  2. you do not have to get a sweater for your cat. but you might want to train it to sleep on your pillow to stay warm at night. my chocolate point kitten learned that from our orange tabby. if the kitten does not mind try baby clothes or small dog sweaters. if train them when there young the kitten will get used to it.

  3. if it is cold were you are then it would be nice and warm and very quite

  4. you *can* get your cat a sweater. but you may never manage to get it onto the cat. If the cat always seems cold, ask your vet about it, and if the vet checks it out and says its nothing, i'd say get a heated cat bed, that way your cat has a warm place to go when you are not around to be a heater for him.

  5. Experience: they really don't work. I had to have my baby shaved during the winter and he HATED it when I tried to make him wear a sweater. I recommend that you put a thin blanket over a heating pad and put the cat on top, then put another blanket over the top of his cat bed. The trapped air will be warmer than the surrounding air after a short time and your kitten will be much happier. Just don't leave the heating pad on too long.

Another great trick is to put your robe somewhere, especially if its terry or velour. Let the kitten curl up, then cover it. It will be plenty warm and really happy if it has your scent on it. Mine will curl up on my jackets, robes, sweaters, etc because its warm and has my scent all over it.

I would try alternatives to sweaters. They tend to make moving a touch difficult, and the look on my cats face was so tragic it was funny. He lost that sweater for a month just so I wouldn't put it on him again.....

  6. You should ask your vet about it - it could be a circulation issue.

But you could try a little sweater and see if he likes it.

  7. get 'bed buddy' and warm it.  Wrap it in a towel and put the kitten on the towel.  It will stay warm a long time, the kitten won't wander too far from warmth.

A baby kitten will NOT like a sweater, he will like being able to 'nest' in something warm that he can lay on.

  8. You can but I wonder if you kitties would like it.

  9. I would not put a sweater on a cat for several reasons. If I were worried about it being cold, I would provide it a box to get in out of drafts and plenty of warm blankets to snuggle into when it wanted to.

  10. Try putting a stuffed toy outfit on them first. My kitten did not like wearing clothes. You might try getting him a heated pet bed. Here is a website with lots of cat clothes:  http://www.thesophisticatedcat.com/cat_c...

and one for a heated bed:  http://www.khmfg.com/products/heatedCatB...

  11. not at all , see if he likes the sweater first. I think your new cats are blessed to have you. you make a great animal mom!

  12. I'm not too sure if it's a good idea to do that. I never really thought it was cool to put animals in clothing.  Once your little kitties get some meat on their bones and get back to their healthy selves they will be alright. I don't think it's necessary to put a sweater on em. Oh and I think it's wonderful you rescued them kudos to you!

  13. Hey... people do it with thier little dogs all the time!

I say... go for it! :o)

  14. Instead of spending money, cut the sleeve from a long sleeve sweatshirt. Cut holes for front legs, the cuff will be the collar. Not only will it keep them warm, but the sleeve will smell like you.
