Question:

Should I get my six yr old a Nintendo?

My daughter is turning six in July... Yay!

She has been talking a lot about Nintendo DS lately. I think she expects it to be like our GameCube, but with more games that she can play. To our disappointment, GameCube seems to have a limited selection of little kid friendly games. All we have found that she truly enjoys is Mario Party.

I was wondering if anybody could give me some advice. Does Nintendo DS have a lot of 6 yr old friendly games? Would a Wii be better? I don't know much about either, but from Google Images, I get the impression that DS is like a gameboy (for one player) and Wii could be hooked up to the tv and shared by the whole family.

  1. yes it would be totally fine. i would just not let her play too much or shell get attatched. a nintendo ds, would give her more fun. wii is made for older kids mostly. and yes, there are variaties of friendly games. theres horse games, pet games, cat games. disney games. nintendogs is a great game, if she likes dogs and puppies. she can take care of them on her ds!!!

  2. Yeah i would say it has like mario games but a wii she could hurt herself if someone isnt watching my son hit himself in the head acidenntily

  3. both are great for her!

i would suggest getting her a nintendo ds first though,

then she should get a Wii , but a Wii would be too much for her, plus the games are more expensive, and i think they are more difficult to understand. But you can play gamecube games on it too. The nintendo wii is awesome, it has motion sensitive controls. The whole family can enjoy the wii, there are so many fun party games to choose from.

The Nintendo Ds has great games for younger kids..but it's a one player system, more for her lol.

The nintendo ds can also play game boy advance games. The NDS is so easy to use, there are 2 screens. The top screen is mostly used as your main screen, then bottom screen is the touch screen. the touch screen is touch sensitive, so its so easy to play games, you just grab the stylus and touch the screen.

    games for nintendo ds:

    Cooking Mama

    Cooking Mama 2

  4. My lil girl is 6 yrs old and she has both a DS and we just got a Wii..She loves the Wii..It keeps her active to were she is just not sitting there playing DS with the Wii she is up moving around..We also have a 4 yr old that is into it too..With the DS some of the games she has are really hard and there suitable for her age group..Like High School Musical..Its kinda of hard but she is getting the hang of it..If I was you I would opt for the Wii..We all love it..

  5. I have a 6 year old nephew and he has a DS. The DS has pretty entertaining games. Mario Party is good like you said. Check out all the Super Mario Games, Playground, Crash Bandicot, Cake Mania, etc. Plus with the DS, you can buy the Nintendo Advance games.

I think the Wii is fun, but it is very expensive for a 6 year old.

You get a good arm workout when you play on the Wii. But if you had to take a trip, your daughter can grab her DS and go.

The Wii can be shared with the whole family, you just have to buy the remotes.

The DS is a single player game, but if she's near someone with their own DS, then some games can be played with 1 catridge. Can you say a quiet trip? Go with the DS.

  6. You may call me old fashioned but I have five children ages: 24,21,20,17 & 7. They all or are all growing up without ANY video games. We just got our computer this year for Christmas. I am a strong believer in reading and music and outdoor activities. If it is bad weather and we have nothing special happening we got walking around the mall. We limit our two children that still live at home to 30 minutes of game time. Yes, the computer is in the living room so they are under constant supervision. This is my opinion and it has not threatened or harmed any of our children.

    Good luck with your decisions.

    God Bless!

  7. by the wii it has appeal and many people  could play it

  8. My 4 yr. old son got a wii for christmas last year and he loves it! It helps him get out some energy on rainy days when he cant go outside and it's something the whole family can do together and we all seem to really enjoy it my 2 yr. old son even loves it!
