I work as a nanny for 2 kids. The people I work with had their friend move in with them and he has one child. I am expected to watch all 3 kids. I asked to get more money and she was surprised i asked and only offered $200 more per month. Is that fair? Or should I ask for more?

  1. I really hope they asked you if it was alright if you could watch that 3rd child! This situation sounds horrible! I have three children and I KNOW how hard it is to take care of them! I would ask for at least what it would cost if he needed to hire a new nanny in addition to what you are already making! That is only fair! You shouldn't do it for just 200.00 extra that is alot of responsibility and I KNOW that the man could not find a nanny for 200.00 a month!!!!! Stick to your guns ~~~ I really hope those people know how rude they were and do not feel bad for asking for money ~~~you are doing a job that is VERY important. You are raising those peoples children that should be their most important priority in the world!

  2. You should definately get more money.  That is not fair of the family to expect you to watch more children, even if it's temporary, for the same money as you were being paid for the original 2.  That will be bad though if you are out of a job for asking for more.  If it is temporary (having the 3rd child)hang in there, but let them know you are planning on it being so. tough call

  3. She should have offered to pay more before you had to ask but I think 200 is ok unless the child is a great deal more work.

  4. First of all, h**l yes you should get more money. It's one additional kid but probably 5 times as much work. I would take what you are making for the two kids and demand twice as much. That way, if you have to negotiate you can still come down a little without losing money. The nerve of these people! I'm getting all heated up about this and I don't even know you. They are taking advantage of you and you don't have to take it!! Let me know how this plays out.
