Question:

Should I get rid of this stuff?

Well, most of it is more than just stuff to me. Things like childhood stuffed animals, some old school things and random knick knacks that I have an attachment to. I don't *need them, and they take up a lot of room.. but I feel like if I get rid of them I'll be missing a piece of something that I'll never have again. Kinda silly, I know.

What're those people called, that don't like to throw things out because they think they might need it in the future? Clutter bugs? That's what I am. lol

Anyway.. I've been told I should just get rid of it and that I would be the better for it. Not only will I have more space, but I'll be letting a lot of old stuff/memories go in a way and feel more clear.

I dunno.. I'm really indecisive about this as you can tell. lol

How is it "things" can be so hard to get rid of??

  1. throw half away keep half simple

  2. I am also a clutter bug or pack rat, when I feel the need to declutter. I will take pictures of the items that have some special memories and place them in photo albums, then I give it away to the local church thrift store so that I can feel better about getting rid of the items and help someone else.

  3. Yeah, dump the c**p! You will feel so liberated when that c**p is gone and your home is clean!

  4. Well I feel much empathy with you because I went through this same scenario not 2 months ago. I am 21 years old and I had a bunch of stuffed animals, baseball cards and even incomplete board games that I have kept forever.

It started to take up way to much space so I decided today was going to be the day I got rid of it. I actually sat on my floor and had to almost surgically remove these items from my hand to the bag. It is this unmistakable feeling that you are disrespecting whoever gave you these items whether as a present or just thinking of you.

What I did was I donated them to my jobs flea market and they sold these things to help with charity. That made me feel alot better. It was out of the way but it was not in the trash. I finally got rid of it all but it has a new life to someone who could really use it, not just collecting dust. My advice I can give to you is try to find a local thrift shop and donate most of the unnecessary things. You can always keep 2 or 3 things, no one will notice ;-). Good Luck!

  5. I agree with the first answer, give most of it away as you will feel your helping someone else who may not have as much as you and that way any memories are not just being thrown away they may make memories for the new owners.

Keep a few small bits that really do mean the most but broken bits im afaid they are better off in the bin.

    Good luck and happy decluttering.

    Sue
