  1. Well I live in the north west way south of you if your in Alaska

And I found both of the sheets your asking about are VERY cold to the touch. and they don't hold up very well.  I work with my hands and they are very rough and seem to snag up on silk and sateen sheets but I do think silk is the way to go SMOOTH. I would think you would want a good quality down comforter just to stay warm.

  2. Silk would cost A LOT. Get sateen, it feels the same and i'ts cheaper. That way if you ruin your sheets you won't feel as bad.

  3. it's true, satin is cheaper, but go for the silk... it's really breathable and will actually keep you cool on a warm night and toasty on a cold night.  satin is s**y at 1st but can get really sweaty and gross.

satin:  + smooth, shiny, easy to wash, cheap; - sweaty

silk:  + even smoother, shinier, breathable; - expensive, need to wash carefully

the other pitfall with silk is to make sure you get mulberry silk (high quality).  Also, they say you have to hand wash it, i think machine wash on the delicate cycle with a gentle soap like Zero works fine.  if your feet are calloused they'll fray the bottom of the fitted sheet too.... so wear socks or get a pumice!
