Should I get the extended warantee on my new Honda Fit?

Question

reg warantee is 3 yrs./36,000 miles.

extended is 8yrs/120,000 miles. but costs $1,600 or so. I don't want to throw away $ (don't have a lot). what are the chances I'll need $1,600 worth of repairs? and if I do, will the repairs I need be covered? I know it's a c**p shoot, but would like your advice before deciding...p.s. so far the car feels good!

Honda's are known for their reliability.  So the chances are very good that you wont need the extended warranty.  With that said..... the price for the extended warranty is actually fairly cheap and it adds to your own peace of mind.  

Bottom line... is the car new?  I would say stay with the standard warranty.

If it's used.. go for the warranty, you never know how the previous owner treated it.

he right that is a big rippoff.

i would only get it if you plan on doing a lot of driving (12k+ mi/yr)

honda vehicles are among the most reliable and are the cheapest to maintain

No! Consumer Reports states don't on any purchase I think.

And furthermore, tell the seller that since he asked you to do that, then it must be an inferior automobile. And don't buy other things like upholstery spray, etc.

what a lot of people dont know is that extended warranty prices are negotiable.the most dealers are allowed to mark up their warranty is double so I bet the cost on that warranty is 800 bucks. I bought mine just for the road hazard warranty on the tires and wheels. Its not that your buying an inferior car its just that at 80,000 miles on a car s**t happens and sometimes its expensive. So that warranty you paid off 2 years ago starts to pay for itself. Consumer reports say dont buy it because you'll never use it. Assess your history with vehicles and figure out if your the person that's never even blown a tire or the person that can't seem to stay out the shop.
