Question:

Should I get the wedges to match my Callaway X-20s?

I buddy of mine (whose a good golfer) looked in my bag and said I need to upgrade my wedges. I do have some pretty generic ones. I bought X-20s last year and they are great. I was thinking that I would get the A, S and L wedges to match this year, but he said I should get some other brand of highly rated wedges. Won't that feel different to go from hitting an X-20 5-iron to some Cleveland or other wedge? What's wrong with going with the Callaway wedges?

  1. I agree with your friend

  2. Just bought a set of Callaway X20's myself.  For consistency's sake, I got the SW.

  3. Callaway makes an excellent set of wedges called the X-tour wedges.  You don't have to have tour level ability to hit tour wedges.  They were designed by the guy who designs Cleveland wedges.  Cleveland started out as a wedge company.

  4. There's something to be said for consistency in a set. With the same manufacturer and models, you're more likely to get clubs that play and feel the same, and that can only help your game.

Remember that there are no standards between manufacturers on equipment. One manufacturer's "regular" flex shaft, for example, is another's "stiff."And while two clubs may have the same loft, the lie angles are likely to be different.

    And so it goes.

  5. For what its worth, I play the Callaway X-Forged 7.0 and I do not like Callaway wedges.  I play Titleist wedges (51, 56, 61) and they are a heck of a lot easier to hit, control and have better balance so they're my choice, but to each their own!

  6. ONLY IF THEY WORK BETTER THAN THE ONES YOU HAVE IN YOUR BAG NOW!!! "HIT 'EM STRAIGHT"

  7. The reason you want to buy real wedges is the bounce.  Wedges are design to work on different types of sand or grass depending where you play.  You will find that the real wedges like Titleist or Cleveland comes in a variety of bounces and loft to match your needs.  Not only they are more versatile but they will help your game a lot.

  8. Roger Cleveland (founder of Cleveland clubs) now works for Callaway. They make a good wedge. I play with Titliest irons but my woods and my wedges are Cleveland.
