Question:

Should I get this job?

I'm 17, and an upcoming senior in high school. Throughout my life, my parents have fully supported me on the condition that I would strive to get the best grades I possibly could. I guess you could say school is my job. This coming year I'm taking 4 AP classes and am in the marching band, which takes up tuesday and thursday after school, all evening Friday, and the entire day Saturday. There's a coffee shop in town that all my friends are working at and I would love to get a job there. Currently they're desperate for employees. My parents are saying they will stop supporting me even if I only work one day a week. What should I do?

  1. No you have plenty of time to work in your life. Enjoy not working enjoy not having bills to pay!

  2. Of course you should take the job. With a job comes a schedule where you can pick out days where you can work. Things can be moved around on your schedule to make things easier for you. This can be a fun experience if your friends are also doing the same job. Plus, I think your parents just might be scaring you into this job, but i don't think they would stop supporting you! just try and have fun! it is your last year of high school and the money will help you for college! Hope this helps!

  3. Why do you want the job, other than the fact that your friends work there, too (which incidentally, isn't really a great reason to get a job). It seems to me that you already have a pretty full schedule of extracurricular activities, and you didn't even mention how much time you need to do your homework, practice your instrument or take music lessons. I don't think this is an issue of your parents not "supporting" you. I think they're trying to keep your stress level down. It sounds to me like you're over-extended with your schedule as it is. When exactly do you kick back and have fun with your friends? Believe me, you'll have plenty of time to work when you're in college and beyond. If you don't have a financial issue, I think you have no reason to seek more responsibility at this point. Enjoy your senior year while you can. It won't get any better than this!

  4. It is not worth working there even one day a week afterall you won't get paid much and you will end up spending that money for a cuppa cofee in that same shop.
