Do you think I should lift weights to be ready for football

Im starting my first year of football(freshmen). Im 5'6 and 180 pounds. Our school doesnt MAKE us so its our choice. Ive never had to lift weights until last year during gym. And never since. But now that ill be playing football everyone is saying I should. I could only lift 90 pounds(100 too but I had trouble) and I could only bench 25. Yeah my upper body strength sucks. What do you guys think I should do? I thought about not going at first and working on it by myself at home but then id just leave if it was hard or id do something wrong so. Help?

  1. dude, when i was a freshman, i was very weak. so i decided i would work out every day. (alternating between lower and upper body days). now i am a sophmore and i can bench 175 and i can squat 270. Im also the starting TE and LB. Also when you lift weights it makes you just a better football player. dont forgett to work on technique though!

  2. dude your lacking upper body strength, just do alot of crunches and push ups, it helps big time, you'll see some strong guys, and i think you should play you'd make a good Tightend or Fullback, im in 8th and i'm a fullback and QB, i weight 145 and im 5'4  but i bench 120 and it helps when you are tackling.

goodluck and even if you arn't the best football player you'll love the game so its worth it

  3. Start Up with push ups and sit ups like 150 or 200 each day(of both). I know it is a lot but with your body strength as weak as it is it is soo necessary. then after a week or two of that then you can start off with light weights. work on bench but also do military and do a lot of squats.

Ask your coach what he thinks also because if you cant bench at least 100 in high shool maybe you don't need to play because those other kids will light you up no joke you will get injured maybe you should sit out this year till your body strength increases just a suggestion not saying you have to follow it

I'mm going to the 7th grade and i bench 90 and squat 150 so i know

Hope i helped and good luck

  4. Yeah I think you should because lifting weights will help you build up your upper body strength. Good luck!

  5. I think you should. Football is such a big character and confidence builder. Besides, your only a freshmen, you have plenty of time to get stronger.

  6. Lifting weights can only help your case man. It means you'll be stronger, faster, jump higher and more durable, which means you'll be hurt a lot less too.

Also, you'll be intimidating. If they say it's your choice, they're basically saying "Let's see who is dedicated and wants to play".

  7. weight lifting will get u stronger but will also make u slower and it makes u more injury prone

but training ur nerves will make u faster and making ur nerves react faster makes u hit harder and less injury prone

ur decision ( look at adrian peterson buff but gets injuried too)

  8. Yes you should lift weights unless u wanna be ran over because they will come at you hard. And you also want to knock someone on their a** thats what makes football so fun

  9. I would definitely start lifting wights.  If the coaches are any good, they'll want to see who is willing to work for the positions.  Even if you don't absolutely need the muscle for this year, you'll definitely need it in future years.  It'd be best to start lifting with the team to help motivate you.  Even if you're not as strong as them, just keep lifting and watch your own improvement.  As long as you stick to it, you can catch up in the long run.
