My hamster keeps trying to chew everything hard, first my button, then my pencil, a lot of things! Should i give her something to chew on? I can't go to the pet store now, but she really wants something. Is there anything I may have that i can get around the house that will be safe for her???

  1. She wants to chew things to wear down her incisor teeth that grow continuously and need ot be wore down. I am not sure what you can find around the house that is safe for her. But at the pet store for like a dollar they have little things for them to chew on to wear their teeth down

  2. paper towel rolls and cut them in half, or a toilet paper roll. they chew on that and use it for bedding too, my hamster uses it as a bathroom so its easier to clean the cage too.

  3. No the button of your shirt is not a healthy chewing thing for your hamster.

Hamsters gnaw on stuff so that their teeth don't grow long and cause problems.Hamster teeth keep growing throughout their lifetime and if they do not gnaw, long teeth can cause health problems to them.

Simple things you can give your hamster to gnaw are -

Empty toilet paper roll (hamsters love to chew on this)

    Hard dog biscuits (sugar free)

    Plain uncolored cardboard pieces

If you are going to a pet shop, you can pick up some wooden chew sticks and hang it in your hamster cage so that she is diverted to that and does not chew on buttons or pencils which can be clearly unhealthy for her.

  4. You're hamster is supposed to have things to chew on. It helps their teeth. If you can't get stuff from the pet store right away give your hamster like paper towel or toilet paper rolls.  They will chew those.

  5. My friend has a hamster...so I'll try and help the best I can.

There are these colored blocks of wood that you can use. I can't remember what they are called, but they are kinda long, come in green blue yellow and a reddish pink. And i'm pretty sure they are wood. And some carrots and corn to entertain as well as feed1 i hope this info helps!
