  1. bottle of water is perfect. no mess and a dish for food is good so is a bottle for parakeets. i use dishes on canarys but i clean them every day. so any works good. i'd prefer the bottle.

  2. A bottle is a lot easier to keep clean.  It won't get soiled with droppings or by them bathing in it.  You do need to be sure the bird knows how to drink from it before you remove the dish though.  I like the Lixit bird bottles with the red ball.  They usually learn VERY quickly how to use them.

As far as baths, most budgies don't enjoy taking baths in standing water anyways; or at least not often.  If your budgie does enjoy it, you can place a dish in their cage for an hour or so per day, specifically for bath time.  Most, however, prefer to roll around in a damp lettuce leaf (I've seen it, it's adorable) or get misted every couple days.  They're desert birds though and don't take nor need soaking baths often.

A budgie will not forget where its water bottle is any more than it would forget where its water dish is, lol.  As long as you're sure it knows how to use it, it'll be much more sanitary than a dish and it definitely won't die of dehydration.  If all we were worried about is how "natural" it is, we wouldn't give them plastic toys and keep them in cages.  It's also unnatural to have a small, stagnant, bacteria filled source of water.  However, we need to do the best we can; so in this unnatural environment of a cage, a water bottle is the most hygienic and therefor healthiest option.

  3. I have a parakeet and i use a dish . a bottle can  be hard to drink from  or u could get a  water holder thing that goes on its cage . just  go to the pet shop and look for them.

  4. I prefer to use dishes and do not mind at all washing it out every day to keep it clean. Allowing it to use a bowl or dish will allow it to take the baths it likes to take to keep itself clean. Plus it's fun watching them take a bath and I love taking pictures of them taking baths!

Also consider a bottle may be hard to find or remember and sometimes a bird will die of dehydration from not knowing  or remembering where the water is at all. A bottle is simply not natural.

  5. Why are you thinking "Either/ or"? I give my birds *Both*!!

That way they can take a bath in the dish if they like, yet they still always have clean water from the bottle!

Bottle or dishes are not expensive, so I say "Go for Both!!"

    Good luck

  6. For water you should give the bottle kind because a dish gets pretty messy, especially with the poo, and a bottle you can change less often, but they'll always need fresh water. food is okay for dishes.
