Question:

Should I give up on thinking I have a chance at this job?

I've interviewed 4x a large hospital (3 for 1 position, 1 for another position they recommended me for instead). It has been 1.5 weeks since my last interview, I called HR and left a message after 8 days to follow up, but its been 2 days since and I haven't heard anything back from the recruiter, who has always been really good at getting back to me. Would it be okay for me to start applying to other jobs at this company yet? Or is this typical to wait this long? Do I still have a chance?

  1. you should never give up but always have other options.....so apply for other jobs just as a back up. you never know.

  2. Hi there!

Well, I think that you still have a chance... but I wouldn't stop interviewing for other jobs in the meantime. In this day and age, with the economy the way it is, you can't be too motivated. Worst case scenario is that you get no offers. Best case... you have multiple offers to choose from.

The reason that I wouldn't close the door on it just yet is because they've interviewed you 3 times for one of the jobs, and are obviously seriously considering your abilities if they recommended you for another position.

Plus, keep in mind that many companies (including the one I work for), take weeks upon weeks to hire people. There is a lot of red tape involved. I imagine it's twice as much in a large hospital, where patient safety has to be first. They can't be too careful with background screening, credit history and the like, to make sure each hire is trustworthy and on the level.

Keep your options open but don't rule it out. Hopefully you'll hear something soon. Good luck! :-)

  3. i really don't know what to tell you, i got call for an interview for a job tha ti had applied at two months ago and they called me on monday.

i also had an interveiw for a job i regret taking and i had the intervew 12 days before i got hired.

  4. I would check back, just one more time, to ensure that they are still trying to fill the position. Let them know that you have been in contact, and want to know the status of the search. Don't mention anything about the timeline, though- they already know that, and it will make you come across as impatient.

Sometimes hiring can take a little while. The job that I'm in, I've had for about 4 months, but applied for just over a year ago. Be patient! BUT, do start applying for other things. Not at that hospital, necessarily, but other places, just to expand your prospects and opportunities.

    Best of luck! :)

  5. I agree with the first answer. Best to go in and talk to them, then they know you are really serious.

  6. you should go in and talk to them instead of calling calling just makes you look lazy.
