I have no less than 5 in my house at this moment, all of which are the old fashioned kind.

  1. I would wait till the last minute, I'll bet there is a flurry of price cutting, even after the deadline is past, those converters will rapidly approach commodity prices, just like DVDs players quickly did.

  2. Good question: CNet thinks you should wait until coupon-eligible boxes have more features and come down in price to $40. Problem is, the coupon program might run out of money and then you can't get your allotted two discounted boxes.

If you were planning to replace some of your TVs because they were on their last legs anyway, then I wouldn't buy a box for it. If you have VCRs, they'll need a converter to feed programming. I wouldn't go whole hog and replace all of your perfectly good analog TVs just because of the conversion.

  3. FCC will give you 2 discount coupons and that won't last forever.

    So don't wait.
