Question:

Should I go ahead with Hardwood for my Kitchen?

I wanted a vinyl for the sake of easy clean up and shatter resistance for dishes etc. but I am ultra sensitive to the smell and I react from the fumes of plastics, and adhesives etc. Tile is great but had it before and I have kids and not going to get rid of all my glass kitchenware for it and hate glass splinters. The entire house is having hardwood installed next week except bath, they are waitng on my kitchen decision.

  1. I've had hardwood in a kitchen and know several people who do. It's nice. If you have prefinished flooring it holds up really well. If your finishing it in place I would have them put an extra coat of poly in the kitchen prior to doing the rest of the house.

  2. Go for it! I have hardwood in my kitchen...it looks great but like any floor just wipe up spills quickly and put a rug by the sink and stove.

  3. I hate the hardwood in my kitchen.  With kids spills, scratches and dents are the norm.  You also cannot use the harsher cleaning solutions on the floor or scrub hard without damage, so I feel like they are never clean.  The floors are 5 years old and look 12 years old.  If you do decide to get them have a no shoes in the kitchen policy and be prepared to wipe up even the smallest amount of water very well.

  4. YES!

hardwoods are easy to clean and look great (perfect for resale value on your house if you ever choose to move). I would definitely do hardwoods over vinyl any day!

    Good luck!
