Question:

Should I go back to my home country?

A lot of people have been telling me that in order for me to be able to attend college as an illegal immigrant I should go back to my home country and try to get a student visa from there. I have a few questions though

Should I still apply to a college here before going back just to prove that I would be going to a school or should I apply from my country?

How hard is it in reality for the government to actually issue me a student visa?

How long would it take?

  1. You should apply for a visa about six months before school starts... basically the second you get admission, apply.

You have to show that you have enough money to cover one year of tution and living expenses, once you do that it is not hard. The university admission office will help you with the paperwork.

  2. I would apply to the college from my own country.  Doesn't make sense to apply for the student visa if you are already here, and illegal.  Make yourself legal first before applying.

    Best of luck.

  3. The fact that you are here illegally means that the minute you apply, the government would find out about your status and deport you.  Best to return home and apply from there.

  4. Hi, first of all it may depends on which country you are from. Second, and most important you must prove to the US embassy in your home country that you have sufficient funds to pay for college (a lot of money) and pay for your living expenses since as an International Student you are not allowed to work unless it is on Campus part-time. Also, take into consideration that International Student tuition is way higher than resident tuition (about 3X). I am from Belgium, and was denied 3 times before getting my student visa... So, Good Luck. I personally think you should get help from an immigration lawyer since you are currently here illegally.

  5. i would go back home and go to school

  6. i agree with the above. umm go home apply from there --- don't mention you have ever been here before claim you still live in that country and always have at the end of the day they are more likely to let students in.

BUTTTT if you're outside the EU you will have to pay higher fees ... be aware of that

up to a YEAR if not 2 depending on country and good relations between the two.
